Yiannis S. Chatzizisis, M.D., Ph.D., is an internationally recognized, triple board-certified interventional and imaging cardiologist. His primary clinical focus is complex coronary interventions with emphasis on bifurcations, mechanical circulatory support and invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular imaging. His clinical innovation includes the implantation of the first Synergy Megatron stent for large coronary arteries in the United States, and first renal denervation procedure for hypertension in the state of Florida, among others. His research is focused on vascular biology of atherosclerosis and on the role of artificial intelligence, computational simulations and extended reality in the planning of coronary interventions, development of cardiovascular devices and medical education.

A native of Greece, Dr. Chatzizisis earned his advanced degrees from the Aristotle University Medical School, where he completed his residency and cardiovascular fellowship. Dr. Chatzizisis then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship and a clinical fellowship in interventional cardiology and advanced non-invasive cardiovascular imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Chatzizisis’ translational and clinical research is actively funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), industry and philanthropy. He has also written more than 200 published manuscripts and serves as an associate editor for Atherosclerosis and Pharmacology & Therapeutics Journals. He is an industry advisory board member and consultant on coronary stents, intracoronary imaging and physiology, and a board member of the European Bifurcation Club and a founding member and Chair of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Bifurcation Club. He has received more than 40 international and national awards, including the “Bifurcation Person of the Year” award from the European Bifurcation Club in 2021. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, SCAI and European Society of Cardiology.
